Over 20 000 darklings will descend on the lovely city of Leipzig, Germany this weekend (10th to 13th June 2011) to participate in the 20th annual the Wave-Gotik-Treffen.

With its humble origins in the late 1980’s as a group of friends meeting to celebrate their diversities during the Pentecostal long weekend, growing in strength in the early 1990s to amass around 1500 like~minded folks gathering to enjoy a weekend of music and festivities.
This years Wave Gotik Treffen promises to be the largest gathering of Goths the world has ever seen.
Wave Gotik Treffen translates to Wave Gothic Meeting which celebrates the genre of Gothic and all that it encompasses in its broad spectrum of subcultures. All that is strange, unusual – un- categorical, out of the ordinary and unexpected; slightly odd or even a bit weird; is celebrated.
An increasing number of subcultures with such colorful names, such as Cyber-Punks, Visual-Kei, Harajukus, Neofolk, Cyber-Goths, Fetish-Trailer, Gothic-Lolitas and Steampunks bring a mass of color to the once monochrome ocean which was predominantly black.

Preparations are nearing completion, all hotels in the city of Leipzig have been booked out and the great wave begins now. Many members of the Gothic family are currently reporting struggles with luggage limits, packing and travelling details from as far away as Australia to join in the fun as the festivities begin a day earlier this year.
Total ticket access gives revelers access to over 250 artists performing in various concerts though out the city. The program constitutes of numerous parties, readings, cemetery tours, museum visits, films, displays, the medieval markets and the Victorian picnic. All this ~ topped off with the passing parade of the most decadent, glamorous, unique, outrageous and indescribable costumes.
What a way to spend the weekend!

Wish I was going!
